WandaVision Was Marvel´s Best Vision

With Disney´s release of their latest Marvel show, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, I think it is time to look back at the efforts of WandaVision. While the show was not Marvel´s attempt at making their first show, it is one of their shows that is very prominent in connecting the show to the cinematic universe unlike the other shows such as Netflix’s Daredevil. After a whole year with no new Marvel content, me being a huge Marvel fan, I was excited that a new show was on its way.

The synopsis for Wandavision is that Wanda and The Vision are seen in a television sitcom  But an organization S.W.O.R.D (Sentient World Observation and Response Department) tries to make sense of the situation because Wanda seems to take a whole town hostage  thus allowing her to create a fictional sitcom reality. But there seems to be more than what is seen.

I really liked how the story was told and especially the way it was formatted. A non-Marvel or a beginner could understand it is a story of overcoming grief as in the first episode viewers are shown that it is not what it seems. The way the show runs is that it seems that two Avengers, Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen) and an intelligent robot named The Vision (played by Paul Bettany)  are living their lives in the format of a 50s television show such as the classic I Love Lucy. Then with each episode, the format changes from a 50s sitcom all the way to the style of a modern sitcom such as Modern Family.  While we see those Avengers, there is a B plot of an organization trying to make sense of why an Avenger would make their own reality a sitcom.

WandaVision does a good job imitating the eras of television that are shown on screen. All from the set and backgrounds to even the intros of each episode. Olsen and Bettany do a good job acting from each era and their costumes are simply wonderful.

The show was an immediate success as it was on the same level as  The Mandalorian, Disney´s other IP. In fact, it was so successful that the internet began to adore one character who did not have the most screen time, a character named Jimmy Woo that was played by Randall Park. There were memes and jokes about him appearing in every tv show calling it the Jimmy Woo-niverse, a play on the word universe, as a hilarious way to connect all his media appearances. Even Paul Bettany had the meme treatment as his character was edited to be seen wearing a black turtleneck and gold chain, dubbing his character ´Vishawn´.

Overall the show began well and had ended great. The show does not do much to greatly influence the plot of future movies but it does allow future moviegoers to understand new characters and old characters a lot better in future movies. I would rate it a 4.5/5 Bucky the Blazers. (Featured Image was drawn by Stephanie Ortiz)
